Interesting Facts About the Quarterbacks of the New York Jets

The New York Jets have had some great players play quarterback over the years. Sometimes with positive results an sometimes with a less than stellar outcome. Here is a look at some interesting and little known facts about the quarterbacks that have suited up for the New York Jets over the years.

-Frank Reich threw 18 career TD passes during his 10 seasons with the Buffalo Bills. He came close to topping that during his one and only season with the Jets when he threw 15 touchdown passes.

-The first touchdown pass in the playoffs thrown by a Jets quarterback was a 3rd quarter 20 yard pass from Joe Namath to receiver Pete Lammons in a 27-23 win over the Oakland Raiders in 1968.

-Richard Todd leads all Jets quarterbacks in the category of career rushing yards with 821.

-Vinny Testaverde’s 27 yard touchdown throw to wide receiver Laveranues Coles in a 2005 game against the New England Patriots was the last touchdown pass thrown in a Monday Night Football game broadcast on the ABC network.

-The New York Jets had a completely different passing leader each year from 1995 to 1999. In 1995 it was Boomer Esiason, in 1996 it was Frank Reich, 1997 had Neil O’Donnell, 1998 saw the passing leader position being taken by Vinny Testaverde, and the 1999 leader was Ray Lucas.

-In a week 14 loss to the New York Giants in 1984, Ken O’Brien threw for 351 yards. This is the most passing yards ever accumulated in one game by a Jets rookie quarterback.

-Though he chose to play in the American Football League with the Jets who drafted him, Joe Namath was also chosen in the National Football League draft, where he was picked by the St. Louis Cardinals.
