The San Francisco 49ers are one of those teams that people are familiar with, even if you are not a sports fanatic. This team is passionate about the game, and have won many championship titles and broken multiple records to prove it. After their 2008 season, the team underwent some staffing and player changes, which fans and management are looking forward to in the new season – 2009. These changes, along with the teams’ dedication and fan loyalty, should give sports enthusiasts a good show this year.

49er fans are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the final changes, along with draft picks, as these changes only mean their team will have an amazing year. Season tickets are already in high demand, before fans even know who is going to be playing for them. There is no doubt that the 2009 season will be a sell-out, and procrastinators will be left on the streets during home games.

The West Coast, shortly after WWII, was in dire need for some entertainment in the form of sports. At this point in time, sports teams were mostly located in the East and Midwest, leaving the West Coast barren. Anthony Morabito was the one responsible for opening eyes proving that the west coast needed a football franchise.

Morabito requested an NFL franchise for the city of San Francisco, to put the West Coast on the maps in sports. However, the NFL quickly turned him down, as they did not feel this was a profitable move for their league. Anthony was aware of the news about the AFL and quickly aligned himself with this venture.

Morabito, along with his partners, worked hard at coming up with an identity – for this new team – that would be remembered and would last. This is when they came up with the name – the San Francisco 49ers. The name was derived as a memoire for the miners of the Gold Rush years. Surprisingly, a painting, on a railroad car, inspired the men to come up with this name (the painting was of a miner).

It was not until the AFL and NFL merger that the 49ers became an NFL franchise. This is when the team became noticed and ticket sales began to skyrocket. After many years of fighting and hard work, Morabito finally had his dream NFL franchise.

Over the past few years, the team has faced some tribulations. Early on in the season of 2007 their starting quarterback – Alex Smith – suffered a severe shoulder injury, putting him on the bench for 1 1/2 years. Unfortunately, this set the team back. He has; however, recently signed a new 2-year contract with the 49ers and will be back on the field for the 2009 season. He and the team are ready to show the world what they are made of – once again.

For over 60 years, the 49ers have been running, passing, and tackling like never before; their passion and dedication has stayed strong. They are proud winners of five Super Bowl rings and multiple division and conference titles. 49er fans are some of the most dedicated fans in the entire league, and ticket sales prove it. The 2009 season, like many others, will be sold-out in no time at all.
