According to the runways this season, the eighties are making another come back. Styles from that era have influenced designers alike since the decade ended, however, the new fall fashion line is so similar to the eighties theme, it’s an all out revival.
The loud glam rock look that made the eighties what they were is popping up all over runways everywhere. Neon colors, shiny metallics, and grounding neutrals like black and gray are the foundation for color palettes. Animal prints are still in, as well as bold graphics, rich fabrics, and a variety of textures. Designers are also bringing back the big shoulders that were so popular in the eighties. Accessories for this season include futuristic jewelry, leggings, and wide belts.
Runway trends for hair and makeup also follow the eighties theme. Fall hair is all about the up-do. You’ll see a lot of brilliant buns and fabulous ponytails, done like you’ve never seen before. And of course, you can’t have eighties style without big hair, so you’ll also see some styles with a mix of sleek and shambled put together. As for the makeup, you’ll see a hodge-podge of bold block colors, grays, and blacks. Various shades of grey seem to be the newest trend on eyes, nails, and even lips, yes, lips! Strong and quaint shimmery golds are the softer side of the new colors for eyes, cheeks, and lips. Two trends seen, that seem to be brought back every season, are dramatic liner for eyes and a full matte red pout.
During the eighties, the style was over the top and under appreciated. The eighties era has had an enormous amount of influence on fashion, among other things, not just this season but every season. So, if you are a ‘Material Girl’ like me than enjoy the déjà vu, because this season is for you!
